California recruit Kline benefits from hair-raising journey
Kline, a 6-2, 205-pound quarterback from San Ramon Valley (Danville, Calif.), is growing out his hair for Locks of Love , a nonprofit organization that uses donated hair to provide wigs to children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
"It's kind of embarrasing, but my girlfriend straightened my hair out the other day to see how long it was," Kline said. "It will be definitely shaved off by the end of the (school) year."
Kline is playing Thursday in the Under Armour All-America Football Game in St. Petersburg, Fla. After that, he plans to enroll Jan. 17 at the University of California-Berkeley, allowing him to get an early start on his freshman season by participating in spring practice.
"It's something I decided to do at the end of my junior year," Kline said. "Football is extremely important to me, the same with academics and I wanted to know the college classes. I wanted to know what I was getting myself into early and I wanted to try to contribute to the Bears as quickly as I could. If I do get early playing time, thank God. If not, everything happens for a reason."
