What she makes • Gayle is a jewelry designer who makes fabric flower jewelry, hair accessories and bouquets. You can purchase her items at theginghamgarden.etsy.com and at Lost Arts and Antiques, 254 North Main Street in Edwardsville.
• When did you start making fabric flower jewelry? I've been making them for about three years and selling them for two years. I spend about 15 to 20 hours a week making flowers, and I'm a stay-at-home mom.
• Why flowers? I've been into sewing and crafting forever, and I have always had an interest in fashion. I worked for many years as a ready-to-wear merchandise coordinator for Famous-Barr and Macy's Midwest. Several years ago, I wanted a flower brooch to complement one of my outfits. I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, so I made one. I started making flower brooches and necklaces as gifts and was encouraged by my family to make a go of it as a business.
