Lord Heseltine: Richard E Grant doesn't have my hair
The Iron Lady dramatises Lord Heseltine’s challenge for the Conservative leadership in 1990, which precipitated the Prime Minister’s downfall.
He turned down an invitation to a private screening of the film, in which Meryl Streep plays Lady Thatcher as an elderly woman sliding into dementia and struggling to cope with the death of her beloved husband, Sir Denis.
Despite their differences, Lord Heseltine said that the former Prime Minister did not deserve to be the subject of a such a film.
“I think Mrs Thatcher was a formidable prime minister and to produce a film in her later stages of life depicting the problems of advanced old age, I find extremely distasteful,” Lord Heseltine said.
A number of his contemporaries have also expressed reservations about the film.
