Coupeville senior rides high in the saddle
Flying through the hairpin turns of a barrel race, Lexi Blanchette can stay in the saddle when most of us would have long ago been thrown, hind end over teakettle, into the dirt.
It’s a skill fueled by her love and understanding of horses and a bond of trust forged over time with her mount.
Teamed up with her quarter horse, Skeeter, the Coupeville High School senior has mastered both the skill and grace needed to not only perform intricate, dance-like maneuvers with her 4H drill team, the Coupeville Cossacks, but to also become a competitor to watch at Whidbey Western Games Association competitions.
“During the summer I have a show almost every weekend,” Blanchette said.
Lexi Blanchette’s fate as a horsewoman was sealed long ago at the Island County Fair.
