Couples burning to get hitched once rushed to Elkton to take advantage of the town's lax marriage license laws.

Over the last decade or more, a similar alacrity has been seen among small business owners in Elkton. But rather than flocking toward the town, their movement has been away - away, many business owners say, from Elkton's lack of governmental support for small businesses and away from a growing homeless population that is a roadblock to success downtown.

Five and dimes, clothing retailers and shoe stores have left town, but most emblematic of the town's decline, perhaps, is the possible loss of the only surviving Elkton wedding chapel.

Nestled next to Step-by-Step Bail Bonds and behind a historic marker that designates Elkton as "The Wedding Capital of the East" sits the Little Wedding Chapel, owned for the last 30 years by Frank and Barbara Smith.

This is a great idea! I do something similar, but instead of gluing the flowers together, or gluing a gem on the front, I use a brad (I find big, gem looking brads), push it through the hole in the flowers, push it through the first hole in the metal clip, then open up the brad. I’ve got a flower that can go on anything.

What makes it even better, is that I can rearrange the flowers (I’ve got a big box of them) to match whatever outfit my daughter is wearing. Since there is no gluing, there is no permanence and the flowers are interchangeable per the outfit/occasion.

My daughter comes down to my room every day to ‘make her flower’ for each outfit every day. And it’s easy enough she can do it all by herself!
