Royals stayed modest this year; singers went wacky
This year, fashion was more accessible than at any other time in history.
The world’s newest royal and fashion icon — Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge — was spotted shopping at chain stores.
Designers addressed fans directly on television and Twitter; and sold cheap chic collections on eBay and at H&M, Macy’s and Target.
With so many opinions about fashion, a consensus — much less a trend — wasn’t easily found at times.
Here are my picks for the top trends of 2011:
• McQueen mania: Catherine wore Alexander McQueen for the royal wedding of the century in April. Despite the death last year of the bad-boy British designer, his fashion label gained popularity — thanks to the legacy-extending designs of artistic director Sarah Burton.
