Dog alerts family to house fire
When firefighters arrived, flames were higher than the treetops.
"Units arrived on scene to find a fully involved house," Spring Branch Fire Chief Dustin Beaudoin said. "It was a defensive fire from the get-go. There was no interior attack made. The attack was made solely from the inside of the house."
Firefighters with Bulverde, Spring Branch, Bergheim and Leon Springs volunteer fire departments responded to the scene.
Beaudoin said one of the biggest challenges was a lack of water.
"In this area, there are no hydrants, so we have to rely on tanker shuttles and drafting operations to supply water for the fire technicians," said Beaudoin.
In the end, it was a losing battle. The home was a total loss, he said.
The family said they believe the cause of the fire was electrical but the official cause was under investigation by the fire marshal.
