SAN JACINTO: Vice mayor turns barber for Army recruit
Tevin Newborn has had two significant haircuts in his life.
One was seven years ago when he donated about 13 inches of his hair to Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
The other was on Sunday when the San Jacinto resident had his head shaved before heading off to Army boot camp for the next 10 weeks.
As Newborn’s departure date approached, members of his church got involved with providing him with a proper send-off. San Jacinto Assembly of God Associate Pastor Scott Miller offered to give the young man a “three-second military haircut” just like Miller had when he entered the Marine Corps 30 years ago.
What started as a joke turned into an event to mark the next chapter in the young man’s life.

But to Du Bois horror, Smitty gave him a very short haircut not unlike a military buzz. But Du Bois said that the specific haircut became a pivotal point for him in his baseball career. He not only made them team, he also helped the team win the 1982
