Brantley to move shop after 53 years on Gilmer
Ronald Brantley has cut hair on the sands of the Iraqi desert and in the shade of the Panamanian jungle. But for him the most interesting sights seen, people met and crowns clipped were at home in Tallassee over the past 53 years.
That era will end soon, Brantley said, when he closes his shop on Gilmer Avenue and opens a new one in Kent near Brantley Signs.
The move will be the next step in a career journey that started in 1957 when Brantley was drafted into the U.S. Army.
He qualified to fire the Hercules missile and was stationed at White Sands Proving Grounds in White Sands, N.M. While there Brantley and the other soldiers worked closely with civilians on the Nike-Hercules missile.
“We were missile men and it was the best job in the world if you want to know the truth,” Brantley said.
