Joyce Deliyiannis will tell you that she was born to help people.
Always one to lend a helping hand, she found her skills as a hair stylist to be part of her mission. When the economy took a turn for the worse in 2009, she began to get calls from longtime clients who frequented her chair at the Dellaria Salon and Spa and the Burlington Mall, letting her know they had lost their jobs and could no longer afford her services.
Realizing people were losing their jobs by the hundreds of thousands, Deliyiannis spoke with her manager, Heather Pelligrini, to ask if she could give free haircuts at the salon on her day off. Pelligrini took the request all the way to the corporate headquarters and the response was exceptionally positive and the green light was given.
“We were all so inspired that Joyce was willing to utilize her day off on Mondays to give free haircuts to the unemployed. And of course, she was welcome to use the salon’s equipment and hair products while she was at it,” said Pelligrini.
