Arlington 'Handywoman' tackles Ottoson tech rooms

Giving a room a makeover may seem daunting to some, but not to Allison Oropallo.

A technology/engineering teacher and LEGO robotics coach at Ottoson Middle School, Oropallo was a finalist on last year’s HGTV television competition “All American Handyman.”

Oropallo set an ambitious plan for the Ottoson technology classrooms. She said some work is cosmetic, but most would address safety issues for the 600 students who use the space.

“The carpet in one room is bunching up and causing the students to trip,” she said. “It also holds dust and dirt.”

The carpet will be ripped up and the floor grinded to the concrete, along with the tiled workshop room, courtesy of Home Depot in Watertown, which is donating a diamond grinder and labor.
