Conference organizer wants girls to make better decisions early on
Walters said she has wanted to hold a conference just for girls for years but only recently found the time and the opportunity to work with Mud Creek and the Bible institute to put the event together.
Her inspiration for the conference came out of her work with a group of teenage mothers in the area. The group, known as Teen Mothers of Preschoolers, included about 12 teen mothers who came together to share their experiences. Walters helped the young mothers, often becoming a mentor to them.
"I've seen them grow up," she said. "They are great moms."
As rewarding as it was to see the teen girls grow into motherhood, Walters said she also wanted to do more to help girls before they became mothers too soon.
"Girls need to be reached before they make a decision that will change their lives," she said.
