This is the year beauty companies are battling for cover. Covering our skin, that is. We have already seen a killer wave of BB creams — that’s short for “beauty balms,” the new generation of multi-purpose lotions that have swept the Asian marketplace.

Although it’s not being marketed as a BB cream, the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer is a multi-tasker. I’ve always been a fan of the light and layerable Nars foundations. This one, which launched in Canada this week, is the best new thing in my life.

Am I sucked in by the Nars name? Yes, same as I always wear my purse with the Prada label facing outward.

François Nars is definitively the most glamorous celebrity makeup artist. His team does a slew of runway shows at fashion capitals (though Nars himself only swoops in to design and decorate the models under longtime pal Marc Jacobs’ tent). Nars rules the beauty world from his private island in French Polynesia, where he developed this tinted moisturizer.
