Defining a Successful Wizards Season
The Wizards open up their NBA campaign Monday night, providing fans and pundits alike with the first true glimpse as to whether a successful season is in the offing. The question is, define successful.
Sure, that generally means making a postseason appearance, something the languishing franchise has failed to accomplish since 2007-08 and just five times in 23 seasons.
The upcoming truncated season features an onslaught of rapid-fire games due to the NBA’s labor dispute. That could play havoc with the league's hierarchy, thus giving the usual cellar dwellers a chance to rise. Maybe the deep, but not so top-heavy Wizards and their young legs make the leap, but realistically this team is not ready for prime time. Not yet anyway.
With youth comes growth and it's within that development that progress can be found. Here's what to focus on, starting with the opener against the New Jersey Nets at the Verizon Center and throughout the 66 games in 122 days season.
