South Scranton bank robber sought
Scranton police said that a suspect described as a white male estimated to be in his 30s entered the bank at Meadow Avenue and River Street at about 2:42 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 3.
“The suspect made statements that he had a bomb and demanded money,” police said in a release issued Tuesday afternoon. A teller turned over an undetermined amount of cash, and the suspect fled the bank on foot towards Gerrity’s Supermarket on Meadow Avenue.
The man is approximately 5’7” tall with a medium build, long dark “scraggly” hair, and a mustache and beard. He was wearing glasses with square frames, a dark sweatshirt, and khakis at the time of the incident.
The robbery follows a similar incident on Dec. 23 when a man entered the Wells Fargo at North Main Avenue and Jackson Street, slipped a note to a teller demanding money, and walked off with an undisclosed amount of cash. That suspect was a white male between the ages of 25 and 30, approximately 6’ with a thin to medium build, and was wearing a white knit hat with a brim, a black hooded sweatshirt, and blue jeans.
