King's birthday bash shakes up Collavino Hall
This weekend marks the birthday of the undisputed King of Rock and Roll. Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935, and this Saturday night, January 7, Windsor’s Centre For Seniors presents “The King’s Birthday Bash”, a fundraiser concert celebrating one of music history’s most iconic artists. Featuring award-winning Elvis impersonators and tribute artists from across Essex County, Saturday’s Birthday Bash starts at 8:00 p.m. at Collavino Hall in the WFCU Centre (8787 McHugh Street). Tickets are $20.00.
One of the tribute artists performing at Saturday’s concert is Harrow’s James Gibb , the 2011 winner of the “Professional Early Years” category at one of the world’s largest Elvis Festivals in Collingwood , Ontario. “They break the contest down into ‘Early Years’ and ‘Vegas Years’,” explained Gibb. “So it’s either ‘50s Era’ or ‘Jumpsuit Era’.” James competed against 140 other Elvis impersonators to earn the category’s top prize.
