Barter your way to a better budget
Everyone feels cash-strapped after the holidays, but you can get back on track by adding barter to your budget. If you don’t mind the effort, you can barter for almost anything you need and keep cash in your wallet. This year, when pulling out your credit card to buy something, stop wondering, “Can I afford this?” and start asking, “How else can I get this?”
I spent the last year without an income, living on barter as part of my Barter Babes Project . I saved $10,000 for rent and had an understanding partner. I’ll admit quitting my job was extreme, but the experience changed the way I spend money. I’m a smarter consumer than before. Now, I buy what I need, rather than whatever I want, whenever I want it. I am more self-sufficient and financially sustainable, and I’m launching a business teaching people how to barter, save money and be less dependent on cash.
