Oscars 2012: As it happened
6.06pm: That concludes the 84th Academy Awards and the awards ceremony season for another year.
Without any hiccups (at all), the Oscars went to the contenders we all expected them to. The Artist won five Academy Awards and cleaned up in most of the major categories, including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Director.
Meryl Streep did herself proud once again and maintained her clean sweep for the Best Actress category for her depiction of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.
Hugo also swiped five awards early on, but for the technical aspects of the film.
But the real winner, who proved his worth with the best acceptance speech of the night, was Bret McKenzie's win for Best Original Song for The Muppets.
