Motherhood after 40: How old is too old?
Two-year-old Coco’s white blonde hair flies into the air as Vicky Stikeman swings her daughter up and over her head. Two tiny feet – one sock purple, the other pink – plunk down on Stikeman’s shoulders. Coco erupts in giggles; Stikeman grins.
Nearby, in the kitchen of their midtown Toronto home, Coco’s big sister Clara, 8, is grabbing a snack before her swimming lesson. “She’s quite the swimmer,” Stikeman says proudly, setting a still-giggling Coco back on the couch. She and her eldest love to go for dips in the lake at the family’s cabin in Quebec, she says.
Like any excited and caring mom, Stikeman is engaged, playful and active with her two young girls.
Unlike most, she has already celebrated her 50th birthday.
